McCarthy hoping Wigan can kickstart season after international break

Wigan Athletic midfielder James McCarthy says they should use the international break to reflect on their current form.

While recent performances have certainly warranted a much better return, McCarthy hopes a week off from domestic duty could act as a fillip in the long run.

"It was disappointing to lose the penalty and the goal late on against Everton, but we have to move on now," McCarthy told the Wigan Evening Post.

"The most important thing is to put in a good performance, which I felt we did.

"We created so much, and on another day we'd have gone on and won the game quite comfortably.

"Unfortunately we weren't able to do that and it cost us in the end.

"We've got the international break now, and hopefully we'll get things right when we come back."
