James McCarthy is grateful to Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez for bringing him south from Hamilton last summer.
McCarthy burst on to the English scene last season and is desperate to enjoy more success next term.
He said: "The Premiership is everything it's cracked up to be and more. I'm so grateful to the manager for giving me a chance and I hope we can consolidate next term."
