McCarthy calls on Levein to sort out Wolves striker Fletcher

Wolves boss Mick McCarthy has called on Scotland coach Craig Levein to sort out Steven Fletcher's international future.

Fletcher's not been involved since sending a text asking not to be considered again after the 4-6-0 fiasco in Prague a year ago.

Fletcher admits he wants to play for his country again but Levein has insisted he must tell him directly.

McCarthy, in Glasgow to promote the Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice, told the Scottish Sun: "Steven wants to play for Scotland, simple. I'm not interested in what's been said and what's gone on in the past.

"If there is a willingness from everybody then let's get it sorted out.

"Listen, I had the biggest international fall-out of all, with Roy Keane.

"But I had the best relationship with my players, we reached the play-offs three times and won the third one.

"We went to the World Cup and got knocked out by Spain on penalties. So there were no issues there.

"You won't get me quoted saying it's Scotland's loss that Steven's not playing.

"But the Premiership is arguably the best league in the world and he is a bloody good Premiership player.

"If Craig wants him to play and Fletch wants to play then what is stopping them? It doesn't matter about the ins and outs - b******s to all that.

"He is a good player, Craig is a good manager, let's get him in the team. The bottom line is that if he is picked the lad will be there."
