McCarthy admits West Ham players could not look Zola in the eye

Benni McCarthy admits West Ham United players could not look manager Gianfranco Zola in the eye after defeat to Wolves.

The Hammers are now deep in the relegation mire after the loss.

McCarthy said: "This is rock bottom. It cannot get any worse than this. In the dressing room afterwards, the players buried their heads inside their shirts, everyone seemed shy to show their faces, it was really hard.

"It's hard to know what to say any more because it was just shocking.

"The fans started showing their frustrations and it made things even worse on the pitch.

"We should have shown our character and changed people's minds, given 110, 120 per cent but we didn't do that.

"We let it affect us. Everyone started hiding a little bit and that's no way to go about it when things are not going your way.

"We didn't expect this and it's back to the drawing board.

"We have to do our homework properly as this is a delicate situation. If you don't win your home games. Especially against teams like Wolves, it makes it difficult."
