McCall buoyed by character of Motherwell team after Hibernian win

Motherwell boss Stuart McCall was delighted with the character of his side after they managed to hold out Hibernian in a seven-goal thriller last night.

The 'Well came, who were boosted by a Michael Higdon hat-trick, from behind before Hibs drew level prior to the home side finally going ahead to win 4-3 at Fir Park to go within three points of second-placed Rangers and McCall was buoyed by the winning performance.

"We weren't despondent at half time and we told the lads that we would get chances, that turned out to be the case," said McCall.

"I just thought the two goals we got apart from the two penalties were good goals and the build up to the two penalties was great too.

"I am delighted for Higgy (Michael Higdon), he gives everything he has got and is a vital part of the team here.

"Hibs deserve immense credit, they came here and gave us lots of problems, they played their part in a cracking game of football.

"It is important that we are now 12 points clear of Hearts and St Johnstone in third. We have a big game against Celtic on Saturday now. It's not what you want to hear but we are only looking at the next game."

Hibs opened the scoring through Isaac Osbourne in the 18th minute before a Higdon penalty and Jamie Murphy goal had Motherwell ahead. Matt Doherty struck back for Hibs in the 66th minute but Higdon netted in the 70th and 75th minutes (the second another penalty) before Ivan Sproule grabbed a late consolation for the visitors.
