McBreen relieved to get Central Coast Mariners opener out of the way

Central Coast Mariners striker Daniel McBreen was relieved to finally score his first goal for his new club.

The 33-year old former North Queensland Fury and Perth Glory man netted with a 50th minute header in the 2-0 win over Melbourne Victory at Bluetongue Stadium on Friday night and was thrilled after proceedings.

"It was good timing, I would have liked to have got it in the first week of the season but there's no time like that I guess and it topped off a great weekend," said McBreen.

Apart from his goal, McBreen was also celebrating the birth of his first child, Noah, on Sunday night and said he was looking forward to Friday's home clash with Melbourne Heart so he can come up with a new goal celebration for his newborn.

"The gaffer (Graham Arnold) has said we want to make it a fortress and hopefully we can do that. Hopefully we can get the same result this weekend, I'll bag another goal, and come up with a new celebration," he added.

"I don't know whether she'll (partner Gabby) be taking him to the game but we'll see, I'll have to get him a little "Daddy number one" shirt on him!" said McBreen.
