Boss Steve Clarke added Nicolas Anelka, Stephane Sessegnon and Victor Anichebe to the ranks this summer and has seen youngster Saido Berahino emerge, while Shane Long and Markus Rosenberg remained from last season.
McAuley told the Express & News: "The intensity of the training sessions is really high. Everything we do is at a high tempo and we get a lot of work done. You are playing against a different strikers or combinations of strikers every day. It's rotated and you're getting a taste of different types of players, which can only help us because every day you are coming up against different players.
"It's lively and you do get a good workout in training. The forwards are all different and that's how the club do things.
"They bring players in that will add to the group and move us forward.
"They have done some good business and now we are looking excited and we've got a lot options and a lot of lads who can get the crowd on their feet going forward."
