Jason McAteer has urged Bolton Wanderers to consider Peter Reid for the vacant manager's job.

The former Trotters and Liverpool midfielder says the experienced Reid would be an ideal replacement for Gary Megson.

"I think Peter Reid," said McAteer. "He's got a bit of history with Bolton obviously having played there and he's a fantastic manager.

"He's still been involved in the game, albeit out in Thailand and he's now back with Stoke as a coach and maybe Peter is ready to step up and step back in to Premier League management. I think he'd be a good acquisition."
