James McArthur admits the success of former Hamilton teammate James McCarthy at Wigan Athletic is inspiring him.

The young midfielder has confirmed he will be trialling with Wigan Athletic in the coming days.

McCarthy has now blossomed in the Premiership after a slow start at Wigan.

He told the Scottish Sun: "Everyone knew when James went down he wouldn't start straight away in the first team.

"James knew that too but he bided his time, is playing every week now and is one of their better players. He is playing every week for a Premiership side and that is something I'd like to do myself."
