James McArthur has called on Wigan Athletic to shake off their tradition slow season starts.

The Scotland international, who recently signed a contract extension at the DW, wants Latics to pick up where they left off when the action gets underway in August.

"We need to build on the momentum we finished last year and make sure we hit the ground running next season," he told the Wigan Observer.

"It was an excellent finish to the campaign but the challenge now is to start well and make sure we don't put ourselves in the position where we need to pull something like that out of the bag."
