Gary McAllister has highlighted the importance experienced players will have at Liverpool next season.
The Reds are preparing for the departures of veteran defenders Kolo Toure and Martin Skrtel which has prompted former star midfielder McAllister to urge manager Jurgen Klopp to replace them with players who have maturity and know-how.
Liverpool will welcome 20-year-old Marko Grujic and 24-year-old Joel Matip this summer following this week's signing of 22-year-old Loris Karius but McAllister says it is time to go after some experience.
"If there's an opportunity to bring the right one in, then it will always add to the squad," he said of the prospect of an 'older head' arriving at Anfield.
"Football is a youthful game these days, a running game, but obviously at times you need calmness and experience.
"I am sure the recruitment team are looking at all options and if the right person becomes available, Liverpool will always be interested."
