McAllister admits interest in Leeds job

Former Leeds United captain Gary McAllister admits he was interested in the Elland Road job last year.

McAllister was linked with the vacant Leeds post last year, although he has confirmed he was never approached by chairman Ken Bates.

"If they'd come and asked me about the job then I'd have been interested," he told the Yorkshire Evening Post. "There was a lot of talk that I was going to get the job, and that I'd already got it, but the fact is we never spoke.

"There were no talks with the club and no communication. They obviously had other plans and another target."

Bates opted for Dennis Wise and while the ex-Chelsea midfielder failed to save the club from relegation, he has Leeds unbeaten 12 games into the new League One season.
