Mazzarri excited about Napoli job

Walter Mazzarri is excited about his new job at Napoli.

The former Sampdoria Coach replaces Roberto Donadoni who was sacked this week after just six months in charge.

"Who knows me understands that I am not in a position to fawn over things, but for me Napoli is a real accomplishment, it's comparable with the other teams that are at the top," Mazzarri said.

"Napoli's catchment area makes it seem to me like the fourth [biggest team] in Italy. It's a great place. I know the city and the fans' passion. From this point of view it's at the top, also with regard to ambition and media pressure. You cannot hesitate in accepting a chance like this."

Asked to describe his objectives, Mazzarri replied: "A trainer that shows seriousness and professionalism have to test the team personally.

"I have a general idea having seen Napoli on TV, but I need to interact with the players every day to understand what needs doing and what indications the club needs to be given.

"Work can make the difference, but this is probably the most technically gifted squad that I have trained.

"I have shown that I can teach every kind of formation in my career, but football is not about numbers. At Reggina I played a 3-4-3. At Sampdoria they want to replicate that style of football but I had to adapt to the players that I had.

"But the important things are the players, the spirit, the rhythm in which we do things and the movements."
