Max Gradel's family has been accused of working against the injured Bournemouth winger.
Gradel was signed by Bournemouth for £7million from St Etienne in the summer but sustained a serious knee injury as his side drew 1-1 with Leicester on August 29.
But a source from the Ivory Coast told The Sun that Gradel's injury could have been caused by something more sinister.
"Gradel's family have been working spiritually against him," the source said. "He had risen from the ashes as a result of reuniting with his family, and he told them he would never become estranged from them again.
"But Gradel must have been bewitched, as after he joined Bournemouth he turned his back one more.
"He clashed with elder sister Deborah and argued with uncles. He was oblivious to the poverty his sisters live in."
