Matthaus urges England to pick their best kids for World Cup

German legend Lothar Matthaus says England should play the kids at this summer's World Cup.

Matthaus wrote in the Daily Mail: "If England want to continue coming home from major tournaments after two weeks and watching the final on TV, there is a simple enough way. Keep ignoring top young talent like Ross Barkley and Luke Shaw.

"I haven't seen much of Barkley, but I have heard he is likened to another Wayne Rooney, particularly after the goal he curled past Joe Hart against Manchester City last Saturday.

"That doesn't surprise me. I'm willing to bet there are a lot of potential Rooneys in England, striving to prove they can be as good as Manchester United's former Everton forward and longing for someone to show belief in them.

"Roy Hodgson must show that belief now and consider including Barkley, Shaw and Adam Lallana in his squad for the World Cup."
