German legend Lothar Matthaus is backing Bayern Munich's swoop for Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal.

Vidal is waiting for his transfer to be finalised.

“He'd bring a great contribution to Bayern, because he is the prototype of the player who moves between defence and attack. Bayern lack someone with those characteristics," Matthaus told La Tercera.

“Vidal would be a big boost for any team, but particularly for Bayern Munich. He is one of the best transitional midfielders in the world.

“He has so many qualities in his ability to recover the ball, keep possession and transition from defence to attack.

“Vidal also has a fierce shot and can be an aggressive leader. In terms of temperament, he reminds me of Stefan Effenberg and Oliver Kahn.

“If he arrives, it will calm the pain of fans who are sore about losing Bastian Schweinsteiger to Manchester United."
