Matteo Darmian has played his way into Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho's long-term plans.

The Times says Mourinho has taken a shine to the his versatility.

Darmian, 27, was forced to wait until October 29 for his first Premier League start under the Portuguese.

He received huge praise from Red Devils fans after his solid display against Ajax, and looks increasingly likely to remain at Old Trafford next season.

Darmian has been linked with a return to Italy this week at Inter Milan.
