Nemanja Matic has revealed he's fulfilling a boyhood dream by playing for Manchester United.

Twelve years ago, the midfielder was playing as an amateur for Kolubara in the third division in his native Serbia when an agent offered him the chance to move to another club.

“I was sitting at a table with him and he wanted to take me to another club in Serbia," says Matic. “But I was not happy to go there so he asked me, 'well, where do you want to go then?'

“I was playing in the Serbian third division – probably worse than League Two in England – and not even professional. I was 17 or 18 and earning £70 per month and I told him I wanted to go to Manchester United.

“He was like, 'what are you talking about?!'

“I used to watch United on television back then, but I was actually joking – although it shows that everything is possible."
