Real Salt Lake Striker Clint Mathis was extremely happy with his performance in this weekend's Carolina Challenge Cup, helping his team win the trophy with a 2-1 victory over rivals Toronto FC. Speaking after the game, Mathis said: "It was great to come back to where it all kind of started for me," Mathis said. "I got to see some family and friends and get a couple of goals. Hopefully those goals will carry over into the regular season.
"I feel good. I'm still trying to get fit from my knee surgery, but I feel good, younger than I have in a number of years. It was good to play against competition like this with the regular season coming up."
Real Salt Lake coach Jason Kreis was also very happy with his players performance: "It's been good to have Clint here for the entire preseason.
"I think he has a real understanding of what expect from him. The work that Clint has put in has been second to none. He's such a smart player. He's a difference maker, so to see him get on the end of a ball in the box is big time for us. We need that from him because we need him in the box."
