Chris Smalling has been delighted by Manchester United teammate Phil Jones' return to full fitness.

Despite being labeled as the weak link, United's backline has performed admirably so far this season and it has arguably been the bedrock upon which the Red Devils have built their early-season success.

As further reinforcement to the defence, Jones and Paddy McNair are again available for selection and fellow defender Smalling is delighted that United are now strong in numbers at the back.

"It's great to see him back and Paddy [McNair] on the bench," said Smalling in the wake of Wednesday night's Champions League win over Wolfsburg.

"It's good to know we've got numbers because this next month is going to be crucial to our season: we've got some tough away games."
