Juan Mata made his Valencia breakthrough in yesterday's 2-1 win at Almeria.

The former Real Madrid prospect was impressive on the left-side of midfield after his surprise elevation by coach Quique Sanchez Flores.

"Almeria made it difficult for us," said Mata, who scored 18 goals for Real Madrid B last season, "but we did well and held on for an important win."
