Mata happy to be Man Utd history teacher for new teammates

Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata is acting as history teacher for his new teammates.

United have a long and rich history going back to the days of legendary Wales international Billy Meredith, who played for the club from 1906 to 1921, scoring 35 goals in 303 games.

Spain playmaker Mata said: "Finding out about the history of the club is very important.

"It's important to understand how big the club is and to learn about the history and its many trophies.

"I was really keen to see them all, which is why I went to the club museum. I wanted to know more about our club.

"Going away on tour is also a great way to see how big the club is all over the world.

"You can sense it back home in England of course but even on the pre-season tour of the US we had fans waiting for us everywhere.

"And the local press are very interested in what we do - it's unbelievable really."
