Mata confident Man Utd teammate De Gea focused after Real Madrid debacle

Juan Mata believes the drama surrounding David De Gea's botched transfer to Real Madrid will not affect his focus at Manchester United.

De Gea's much-publicised move to Los Blancos fell through in spectacular fashion on deadline day after paperwork issues meant the transfer was unable to be completed prior to Spain's 11pm cut-off time.

Mata and De Gea are currently in camp with the Spanish national team preparing for Euro 2016 qualifiers against Slovakia and Macedonia.

Mata told the press he was confident De Gea would be able to put the transfer saga behind him in order to focus on playing his best football for club and county.

"He is my friend and I wish the best for him but I am sure he is going to manage the situation very well because he has always done it," Mata said.

"We have two very important games to try to win to be first in the group. Obviously he is going to be very professional.

"I think he is quite focused now on the national team and that is it. He will manage the situation because he has always been very professional and he will always be."
