Mata admits Spanish-speakers dominating Man Utd locker room

Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata admits the make-up of the club's locker room has completely changed.

The signings of Angel Di Maria, Radamel Falcao and Argentina defender Marcos Rojo from Sporting Lisbon for £16m have taken United's Spanish- speaking contingent in the current senior squad to seven.

The others are Mata, goalkeeper David de Gea, midfielder Ander Herrera - another summer signing - and winger Antonio Valencia.

That prompted Mata to joke: "It's true that it feels as if we are taking over. In fact, I spoke to Wayne Rooney and said that instead of us learning English, he needs to learn Spanish!

"It's good for us to be together, though, as we are learning about the English culture and the league.

"I also think it is good for the club to have lots of different players from many countries.

"It certainly helps when you arrive at the club and don't know anybody. You need someone to lean on. In my case, I already knew David from Spain.

"Now, players like Ander and the other new signings can turn to both me and David.

"If you are comfortable off the pitch, you do better on it. When a team is like a family and everyone has a good relationship, then it shows on the field."
