Former Tottenham midfielder Ryan Mason says released Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere is facing a career crossroads.
The 26-year-old revealed on Tuesday he had decided to leave the Gunners following a meeting with Unai Emery.
Mason said: "From Jack's point of view, it's a massive point in his career where he can get back to his best.
"Reading his comments, it's something he felt he had to do. He's obviously not got the reassurance from the manager that he would have liked.
"I'm sure the Arsenal fans will be very disappointed because Jack's an Arsenal man. You can tell he loves playing for that football club.
"I think it's important to have English players at your club who care about your club, because of the connection between the players and fans."
