Mascherano seeking Liverpool pay-hike

Javier Mascherano is demanding a pay-hike at Liverpool.

The People says the terms of the Argentina midfielder's deal mean he is free to talk to other clubs from January and open to what would be a hugely profitable move for him in the summer.

Mascherano is unlikely to leave Anfield before the end of this campaign, not least because he would command a huge transfer fee and is already cup-tied in Europe.

But he could walk away for nothing when his 18-month loan deal expires at the end of the season and many of the Continent's top clubs would be interested.

Talks over an improved contract between Mascherano's agent, Kia Joorabchian, and Liverpool are scheduled for later this year.
