Former Everton goalkeeper Nigel Martyn is backing Victor Anichebe to be a great striker for the Blues.

"Although he is still very young, he has terrific physical presence and showed last week against Metalist Kharkiv that he is improving at a rate of knots," Martyn told evertonfc.com.

"His influence in the second half helped swing the game back in Everton's favour.

"People will compare him with Ayegbeni Yakubu for obvious reasons but I don't see any reason why Victor can't go on to become a top striker in years to come.

"He is playing well at the minute and I'm sure he'll be a tremendous asset for Everton."
