Obafemi Martins is set to join Seattle Sounders following his early exit from Levante.
The 28-year old Nigerian striker has had his contract bought out for around 3million and is expected to soon sign with a MLS deal with the Sounders despite the fact Levante officials were confident he would remain in Spain until the end of the season.
"Footballer Obafemi Martins has this afternoon placed at the headquarters of the Professional Football League (LFP) the amount corresponding to the termination clause in his contract with Levante UD," said a Levante statement.
Furthermore, Martins posted on Twitter that he was set to sign with Seattle: "Wow..Finally,I can now announce that I have just signed for Sounders FC..A big step to take in my career.it's a big challenge but I'm ready."
Former Inter Milan and Newcastle United attacker Martins joined Levante from Russian club Rubin Kazan in the summer and scored nine goals in 27 appearances for the Valencia-based side.
