Obafemi Martins fears talks over a new contract are being delayed because of Newcastle United's relegation threat.

A source close to Martins told The Sun: "Oba does not for a minute believe Newcastle will get relegated but that is the only reason he can think of for the club not signing off his new deal.

"Clubs usually have clauses where wages are cut if they drop into the Championship. But Newcastle never bothered because nobody ever expected they would be in this position."
