Martinez wants Wigan pair Alcaraz, Kone at Everton

Roberto Martinez plans to return to Wigan Athletic to strengthen his new Everton squad.

Martinez wants funds made available to sign some of his Wigan old boys as he sets about changing Everton's style, says the Mirror.

He plans to snap up Paraguayan centre-half Antolin Alcaraz - a free agent after his Latics contract expired - and striker Arouna Kone, who has a £6.5million release clause in his contract.

The trickier captures in Martinez's sights are Wigan midfield star James McCarthy - who is valued at £15m - and play-maker Shaun Maloney, who recently signed a new deal with the DW Stadium side.

England prospect Callum McManaman, ironically freed by Everton as a kid, is also a potential signing even though he is likely to miss the start of next season through injury.
