Wigan Athletic's Roberto Martinez was left to rue his side's profligacy in today's 1-0 loss to Newcastle United at St James' Park today.
The Latics have still not won in the Premier League at the venue but it could have been a different story this afternoon if the likes of Hugo Rodallega and Victor Moses had their shooting boots on in the first half.
Yohan Cabaye's superb 81st minute goal was the difference but Martinez feels it was a lost chance for his side who have now lost six on the trot.
"In a way we did everything we had to do - we neutralised Newcastle and didn't allow them to be themselves and we created the best chances in the early period," he said.
"If we could have scored that first goal it would have been a completely different game. We are really frustrated and we got punished by a piece of quality.
"I think in some ways even a draw would have been a difficult result to take but we are not getting any luck. In football you have to work very hard to get that luck."
Martinez also said that he felt the Latics were the better side on the day and was proud of a strong performance despite the loss.
"I'm not pessimistic, I'm happy and proud in the manner we approached the game. Overall we were stronger and better than the home side and that is a very good sign for the future," he added.
