Roberto Martinez feels his Everton side lacked efficiency in the final third in their 2-1 Capital One Cup loss to Fulham on Tuesday night.
Steven Naismith gave the Toffees a 12th minute lead at Craven Cottage but Dimitar Berbatov and Darren Bent had the final say for Fulham despite the visitors enjoying much of the attack.
Martinez suggested it was a lost opportunity, admitting his Everton could have produced more in front of goal.
"We had two or three great opportunities, but couldn't take advantage so that's a disappointment," he said.
"We lacked a bit of composure in the final third and that cost us.
"There are many things we need to learn from it."
