Wigan Athletic boss Roberto Martinez insists their lowly table position isn't reality.
Despite seeing Wigan make their worst start to a Premier League campaign, Martinez insisted they must set their sights higher than previous years.
He said: "We're not thinking like a side that will be fighting against relegation. We know we can go to places like Sunderland, be ourselves, be arrogant. We showed that until the sending off.
"But when the red card was shown, for five or six minutes we were on the floor and Sunderland took advantage and scored.
"We need to work on not feeling sorry for ourselves. We kept them to one shot on target so it was a hard result to take.
"This is a squad that is ready to achieve something better than just avoiding relegation."
