Martinez must prove himself to new Everton owner

Everton boss Roberto Martinez's job will be on the line if the club is sold.

The Daily Star says he will have to prove he is the best man for the job if John Moores buys Everton.

Moores, who owned the San Diego Padres baseball team for 18 years, is understood to have no plans to get rid of Martinez.

But those close to him insist he is a man who already believes strongly in Everton's motto that "only the best is good enough".

One former director on the Padres board told the Daily Star: "He finds the best people and lets them do their work. He is a hands-off owner, not a meddler.

"He's not a guy who wants to look over people's shoulders. I'd be shocked if he did anything other than make sure he has the best people for the job."
