Everton manager Roberto Martinez is hopeful the club's new investors can help turn the Toffees into Premier League contenders.
The Daily Mirror is reporting Everton are on the verge of being bought by an American consortium lead by former San Diego Padres owner John Jay Moores, although it is understood at least three other parties are also interested in buying the club.
Martinez said new investment will bring positive change and help the club achieve its goals of rising to the top of the English football pyramid, albeit not in an instant.
"If it happens it's going to be over three years or a period where everything is well controlled and introduced," Martinez said.
"I don't think it's going to be that drastic. If there is an investor it's not going to be a drastic change from day one, day two. I don't think that's going to happen.
"What I can say is we are not in a situation where we need to be rescued or we need some sort of financial boost to save the football club. That's not the case.
"If there are investors, it will bring the opportunity to fulfil the projects we have behind the scenes and help the ultimate dream, which is becoming one of the best teams domestically and in European football."
