Martinez hails classy Wigan win at Wolves

Wigan Athletic boss Roberto Martinez was delighted with their 2-0 win at Wolves.

Second half goals from James McCarthy and Charles N'Zogbia earned victory for the Latics, who had a first half penalty from Hugo Rodallega saved by Wolves goalkeeper Marcus Hahnemann.

Wolves defender Richard Stearman and Wigan midfielder Hendry Thomas were both sent off by referee Howard Webb for two bookable offences.

Martinez said: "Coming away from home, we knew that Wolves were going to start very brightly and we coped with that really well.

"On top of that we looked very dangerous on the break and created good chances in the first half.

"We needed to remember Wolves are a side who are going to test you and the biggest positive of our performance was that we looked really solid and looked worthy of a clean sheet.

"It looked like it might be one of those days given the way their keeper played. We've had a few occasions like that this season.

"It was a real test of character with missing a penalty, hitting a post and then the opposition going down to 10 men and looking solid behind the ball.

"But instead of being sorry for ourselves we found the answers and showed a maturity in our play. It was a very important win and it was a complete performance."
