Martinez full of praise for Everton after 'incredible' season

Roberto Martinez believes Everton has produced an 'incredible' and 'remarkable' season in 2013/14.

The Toffees will finish fifth on the Premier League table after spending a lot of the campaign challenging for a top-four finish which moved beyond them just this past weekend.

Everton are now seven points behind Arsenal, who have again wrapped up a Champions League spot, but Martinez feels the improvement his side has made in his first season at Goodison Park will set them up for future involvement in Europe's premier club competition.

"I think this season is an incredible platform for us. To get the opportunity to finish fifth is a remarkable achievement," Martinez told Sky Sports News.

"Champions League football has to be the target and maybe we need a little bit of a period to get there. We want to finish this season strongly and if we can get into European competition it would be a more realistic first step.

"If we can achieve Europe then it will a busy summer to ensure we don't lose all the things that we've shown this campaign - that will be the most important aspect of the summer."
