Wigan Athletic boss Roberto Martinez feels the Europa League will change the mentality at the club.
Martinez said he hopes playing in the Europa League next season will help the FA Cup finalists shake their habit of having to secure safety late on.
He said: "The perception is that we're a small club and we should be fighting relegation.
"That affects results. You can be magnificent in games and then just draw.
"The next step is about changing the perception. Playing in Europe will give us that."
