Martinez discussing Wigan future with Whelan today

Wigan Athletic boss Roberto Martinez is in talks today with chairman Dave Whelan over his future.

The Daily Mail says despite failing to keep his team in the Premier League, Martinez is one of the leading candidates to succeed David Moyes at Everton after leading Wigan to FA Cup glory.

The Spaniard has turned down Liverpool and Aston Villa in the past but may decide the time is right to move to a bigger club after four years at the DW Stadium.

Talks were postponed on Monday because Whelan was in London for the birth of his first great grandchild while Martinez stayed in Wigan for the cup parade, but the club's millionaire owner still hopes to persuade his manager to take on the rebuilding job.
