Martinez delighted to mark ‘significant week’ with Everton win

Roberto Martinez was overjoyed as Everton started a new era with a convincing 3-1 win over Aston Villa on Tuesday night.

The Merseyside club are set to undergo a massive change following the 49.9% purchase of Farad Moshiri which will bring a huge investment to Goodison Park.

To mark the importance of that ownership alteration, the Toffees produced an impressive performance at Villa Park which resonated well with Martinez who is excited for the future of the club.

"It is (nice to start with a victory) and it's been a significant week," said Martinez.

"We've been talking about it a lot but it is important and there's been excitement throughout the fans and everyone at (training ground) Finch Farm.

"It's nice to welcome our new partner at the football club with a win and a positive feeling and I'm sure he'll be delighted with the performance."

Ramiro Funes Mori, Aaron Lennon and Romelu Lukaku had Everton in pole position in the West Midlands before Rudy Gestede pulled one back late for bottom-placed Villa who had their disgruntled fans stage a walkout in protest at the lack of investment from owner Randy Lerner.
