Martinez buoyed by Everton's defensive improvement

Roberto Martinez admits he has been lifted by Everton's improved displays in defence.

The Toffees have kept two clean sheets in a row after conceding 21 goals in 10 matches to kick off the new campaign in a less than desirable fashion.

But a 3-0 win over Aston Villa in the Premier League last weekend and a 0-0 Europa League draw with Lille in France on Thursday has Martinez in a good mood ahead of Sunday's trip to Burnley.

"It's a team effort," he told reporters.

"We work really well, we've been very solid and that probably ends up being reflected in keeping two clean sheets back-to-back.

"The whole back four and the whole team had good concentration [against Lille], which is important in any team.

"The team is getting stronger and sharper and the reflection in the scorelines has been there. We are a stronger team now than at the beginning of the season and I'm really excited about the potential of this squad for the months ahead."
