Martinez blames injury to keeper Kirkland on cold weather

Wigan boss Roberto Martinez reckons the injury suffered by loaned out stopper Chris Kirkland was down to the bad weather. The 29-year-old joined Leicester City on a one-month deal and was set to make his debut against Nottingham Forest on Monday.

However, a back problem sustained in training prevented him from doing so.

Martinez does not believe it is a serious injury but admits he may return to the club for treatment.

"It's a back spasm. It's not a serious problem. Sometimes this cold weather doesn't really help," he said in the Daily Mirror.

"We're going to assess it over the next 48 hours and then we'll decide whether he comes back or stays at Leicester."
