Anthony Martial admits he joined Manchester United determined to be Wayne Rooney's strike-partner.
Martial left Monaco for United in a deal worth a fee rising to €80 million.
He told RMC: "Going to Manchester, I knew there was Rooney in attack and that he preferred to play No10.
"I told myself that I would get my chance and I had to seize it.
"I knew I would be the second striker."
On United manager Louis van Gaal, he added "He is always behind me to tell me things I do well or not. I think it is important for a young player of my age to have the support of his coach."
