Marseille rebuff stay claims made by QPR's Barton

Marseille have denied claims that there is a deal in place for Joey Barton to remain at the club.

The QPR midfielder, on a season-long loan at the Stade Velodrome, stated on his Twitter account that he was likely to remain with the French club after his short-term contract expires in the summer with both parties having agreed a deal.

But Marseille president Vincent Labrune has rebuffed that sentiment, saying that although the club would be open to retaining his services, there is currently no deal in place.

"We would not be against the idea of keeping Joey Barton at OM but he belongs to QPR," he said.

"There is no agreement as suggested by Joey Barton."
