Olympique Marseille president Jacques-Henri Eyraud admits West Ham's deal for Patrice Evra surprised him.

The veteran fullback was sacked by Eyraud before Christmas after clashing with OM fans in Portugal.

Evra signed for the Irons last week and Eyraud insists he holds no grudge against the defender.

"I did not think he was going to land in West Ham. I wish him well in the end to his football career," said Eyraud.

Evra remained on the bench for West Ham's win over Watford.
