Marseille hesitantly accept West Ham offer for Payet

West Ham United's bid of around £11million for Dimitri Payet has been reluctantly accepted by Marseille.

According to the Daily Mail, the Hammers made the offer without permission from the French club who have begrudgingly accepted the proposal following a quarrel between Payent's agent and the club.

Marseille do not want to offload the 28-year old winger but suggest that West Ham's offer over six years, believed to be £21.3m, far outweighs what they can offer.

"At the start of June, an agreement was reached with Dimitri and his agent. The two parties agreed at this time that the OM playmaker would honour the remaining two years of his contract," read a statement on OM's official website. "On June 22, Dimitri's agent requested a new meeting with President Vincent Labrune. He announced that he and his player had opened negotiations with West Ham, saying that the English club offered a contract of six years worth 30m euros.

"The agent then demanded a huge and immediate revaluation of Dimitri Payet's contract to remain at Marseille.

"Unable to meet this demand, Marseille, through the voice of its president, expressed surprise that negotiations had been opened with another club without alerting Marseille."

Payet was expected to arrive in London on Thursday to undergo a medical with the Hammers.
