Marseille defender Heinze: Man Utd success all due to Ferguson

Marseille defender Gabriel Heinze says Manchester United's success is down to manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

Although the Argentina star's time at Old Trafford ended acrimoniously in 2007, Heinze has since made his peace with Ferguson and is full of admiration for the way the Red Devils are run.

"It is down to the person in charge, the person who keeps the club at the highest level - Alex Ferguson, plus all the players they have in the squad," Heinze told the Manchester Evening News.

"The top players there are very important. Players like Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes command the squad and support it.

"I experienced that when I was there, the way they act before and during a match. To have named Ryan Giggs as the club's best-ever player says it all.

"My first big moment at Old Trafford was when the fans and my team-mates voted me player of the season.

"To hear the fans singing 'Argentina, Argentina' was very emotional; my family was there as well. It's something I'll never forget for the rest of my life.

"To go on to win the domestic league title with Manchester United (in 2007) - my first - was unforgettable too."
