Olympique Marseille coach Eric Gerets admits they've tried to land Chelsea defender Alex.

Gerets said: "He (Louis-Dreyfus) wanted Alex. But we let Cisse go because he was too expensive in our budget.

"And he wanted to take Alex, whose wages are bigger than Cisse's. It's something that I don't understand."
