Marquez, Rodgers stick by NYRB teammate Henry

Thierry Henry's reaction when he scored his first goal in a long time for New York Red Bulls on the weekend has been backed by two of his teammates.

The Frenchman broke a spell of close to 700 minutes when he headed home in the 87th minute of the 3-0 win over San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday.

Henry reacted passionately to the NYRB supporters group, Garden State Supporters, who had been jeering him as he struggled with injury earlier in the game.

But Rafael Marquez says that a player like Henry is likely to be the centre of attention and it was ok for him to react the way he did.

"Those types of situations, when you're a professional player, your reaction is to always try to get better,'' said Marquez. "That's what we're doing on the field, trying to get (better) always, not only for the team but to continue to better yourself. That's the reaction that came out of him.

"Thierry is a very special player, not only in Barcelona but in Arsenal. He always tries to push himself with his performance to please the fan. He has an interesting relationship with the fan base,'' added Marquez. "He's a different player from the other ones. He always has the focus of the eye of the fans. Anywhere he pays, the (French) national team, Arsenal you name it, he is always at the center.''

And Henry's strike partner Luke Rodgers also backed his man: "That kind of stuff, I can't believe it. He's one of the best players in the league.

"Yeah, he's got a problem with his Achilles, but Thierry's our main man; we need him to play. Everyone in the team knows that, and the fans should realize that as well. You need a player like that to be happy.''
