Former Benfica winger Lazar Markovic admits he was determined to sign for Liverpool this summer.
Markovic has revealed he tried harder in training after hearing of the club's interest.
The 24-year-old was so keen to impress and earn an Anfield contract that he did his best to ensure the club would not be turned off the idea of luring him to Merseyside.
"I was delighted and I increased my efforts in playing and training at the prospect of joining such a great club," the former Benfica man said.
Liverpool announced on Tuesday a long-term deal had been agreed with the versatile forward, who is ready to help Brendan Rodgers mount a push for domestic and European honours next term.
"The Premier League is the strongest league in the world, and so I am very happy to be here," he added.
"And I have already played in the Champions League with Benfica. It is superb that Liverpool are in it and I hope we will go far next season."
